Why we invested in: Sequence

We are thrilled to announce our investment into Sequence and join Riya and Eamon on their journey to build the modern technology stack for companies to implement usage-based pricing plans. No more dedicated engineering resources required to build custom in-house solutions or finance teams exporting customer usage data to excel and sending paper or email-based invoices for collections. Welcome programmable payments and modern APIs that enable companies to automate their finance operations. 

This is a huge opportunity given the rise of more complex and personalised pricing models for SaaS companies over the last few years across the infrastructure, middleware and application layers - think category defining companies such as Snowflake, Twilio and Slack. As new leaders emerge and legacy players modernise their pricing strategies to compete with the upstarts, we believe Sequence will be their first port of call. They are already working with some of the most successful scale-ups in the market including Snyk, Pipe, Reachdesk, Jeeves, Lune and Omnipresent who have signed up as early design partners. 

Riya and Eamon are both long-time friends of firstminute - our Co-founder Brent was one of the first angel cheques into Eamonn’s previous business Onfido (now a $100m annual revenue run-rate business). Not only are they experienced operators, but they are talent magnets and have already assembled an exceptional team including the former EMEA payments lead at Stripe, Principal Engineer at Monzo, VP Sales at Onfido and operators from Tessian, Messagebird, Wise, Revolut, Intercom, Improbable, Hopin, and Curve. 

With heavyweight investors alongside firstminute including Andreesen Horowitz, Salesforce Ventures, Crew Capital, Passion Capital, Dig Ventures, Fin Capital, 9Yards and the founders of Plaid, Intercom, Deliveroo, GoCardless, Marshmallow, Lendable, Hopin, UiPath, and Monzo, we are excited for the launch of the platform later this year.
